What first started making me dislike this book is when we found out that Monica slept with a lifeguard at her summer job. I think we need to normalize abortion a bit more than it is, and I also like that it started with this so we didn’t have to read about Monica telling her parents etc. The book opens with Monica coming home after having an abortion. So I’m going to go ahead and write a review. But the more I thought about the book, the more annoyed I got. I wrote a tiny review on Goodreads, and was going to leave it at that. I wasn’t going to write a full review of this. There are no more cheerleaders in Sunnybrook, but that doesn’t mean anyone else is safe. And somehow Monica is at the center of it all. Some people in town know more than they’re saying. Whatever happened five years ago isn’t over.
